Freshman Randolph Childress scored seven consecutive points to help Wake Forest build a 10-point lead midway through the second half, and the Demon Deacons (19-10) withstood a late rally to beat the Bulldogs (21-10) in the first round.

In the second round Sunday, Wake Forest, in the NCAA for the first time since 1984, plays 19th-ranked Alabama, an 89-79 winner over Murray State.
