4 INMATES SPARK UPRISING AT PRISON

Four inmates at Nottoway Correctional Center threatened guards and attacked other inmates in an incident that was over in less than an hour.

Operations Officer David Robinson said that the four evidently had been drinking homemade mash and became abusive to officers at the prison Friday night.

"We regrouped and suited up to go in and get them, and while we were doing that, they attacked other uninvolved inmates, who fought back. We went in and took control," Robinson said.

The incident began about 9:45 and was over by 10 p.m., he said.

Six inmates were taken to the hospital, Robinson said. Three had returned to the prison Saturday, and two others were expected to be treated and released. Robinson said one would probably would be admitted to the Medical College of Virginia for treatment.
