MONEY CAN SOLVE SCHOOLS' PROBLEMS

EVERY DAY, America's students are compared to the students of other countries. "Why don't our children measure up?" politicians ask. "What can we do to make them better scholastically?"

Governors, mayors and our president ponder constantly over these questions. Yet, the solution is right in front of their eyes - money!

Students don't need longer days, longer years or even more teachers. What they need is money to build better facilities; to buy better books for better courses and hire better teachers; to provide the kind of atmosphere that makes a kid thirst for all the knowledge our world has to offer.

It's ironic that so many people are concerned about education. When it comes time to cut things in the budget, education is one of the first to go.

Granted, there are other concerns that need to be paid for. However, if the children of America aren't properly educated, how will our nation survive in this competitive world? JENNY REYNOLDS VINTON
