Rowe Furniture Corp., which operates a plant in Salem, on Tuesday reported a net loss of $250,000 or 10 cents a share for its first quarter ended March 3. That compares with profit of $472,000 or 18 cents a share in the corresponding 1990 quarter. The net value of Rowe's shipments for the quarter was $15.4 million, down 21.4 percent from $19.6 million in 1990's quarter. A.H. Dunkin, secretary-treasurer, said the company's production is operating at less than full schedule.

Farm income is declining more sharply than had been projected, due mostly to higher expenses and lower government subsidies, the Agriculture Department said Tuesday. The new forecast, issued by the department's Economic Research Service, shaved $2 billion from earlier farm-income projections for 1991. Net cash income was predicted to range from $53 billion to $58 billion.
