SBA NOMINEE AWAITS SENATE PANEL QUORUM

Patricia Saiki, nominated to head the Small Business Administration, was praised by former colleagues on Capitol Hill Wednesday, although one senator said he regretted her lack of business experience.

The Senate Committee on Small Business held a confirmation hearing on Saiki's qualifications. Members had hoped to vote on confirmation, but too few showed up to form a quorum.

Saiki, a former GOP House member from Hawaii, was expected to be confirmed later Wednesday after senators were contacted in a telephone poll, committee aides said. - Associated Press
