The service will be conducted by the VMI chaplain, Col. Charles C. Caudill, in honor of Lt. Terry L. Plunk, a 1988 graduate, and Maj. Thomas C.M. Zeugner, class of 1976. They were among more than 330 VMI alumni who served in the Persian Gulf.
Plunk was an honor graduate, first in his class among civil engineering majors. A native of Vinton, he held rank in the Corps of Cadets throughout his final three years at VMI. As a senior, he was a cadet captain on the regimental staff and was voted by the faculty to receive the Cincinnati Medal, awarded annually to the one graduate selected for academic and all-around excellence.
Zeugner, an Army ordnance officer, came to VMI from Petersburg and was a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy. He earned his VMI degree in English and was active in many student affairs as well as co-captain of the swimming team. He later earned a master's degree at Troy State University in Alabama.
Classmates of the fallen alumni will serve as ushers and Scripture readers. Music for the service will be provided by the VMI Glee Club and the Brass Choir.
