Travis Soper probably died late Sunday or early Monday, hours after he disappeared while playing with other children, Prince William County police spokeswoman Kim Chinn said. There was no evidence of severe injuries to the body.
The boy's body was found Tuesday morning in Prince William Forest Park by a National Park Service ranger.
Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Ebert said he will determine if neglect charges are applicable.
The boy was being watched by a 12-year-old neighbor, other neighbors said.
