SURE AS THE SUN RISES, THERE'LL BE EARLY SERVICES APLENTY AT EASTER

Easter services as the sun comes up have long been popular among Western Virginia's countless mountain vistas. All those listed here are free and most include special music and a speaker.

\ NATURAL BRIDGE: U.S. 11 in Rockbridge County, 45 minutes drive from Roanoke, at 7 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Meloy of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church in Roanoke preaching and the Rev. Dr. Frederick Ritsch of Falling Spring Presbyterian in Rockbridge County assisting. The music will be by the Madison Singers and the Brass Ensemble of James Madison University. For this event only, no admission will be charged to view the bridge.

\ SHERWOOD MEMORIAL PARK: 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike in Salem at 7 a.m. with the Rev. Collier Harvey of New Hope Presbyterian speaking. The music will be by the First Church of God in Salem. Rain site will be Salem Wesleyan Church at 424 Chamberlain Lane.

\ LA BELLVUE-U.S. 460 EAST: 7 a.m. on the lawn of Villa Heights Baptist Church, 4080 Challenger Ave. The Rev. Harold C. Lewis, pastor, be the speaker.

\ HOLLINS: At 7 a.m. on the lawn of Summerdean Church of the Brethren, 6604 Plantation Road. The Rev. William Harding of Enon Baptist will be the preacher. Breakfast will follow in the church.

\ GARDEN CITY: Beginning at 7 a.m. at Garden City Baptist Church, 3536 Garden City Blvd. S.E.

\ HERSHBERGER ROAD: Beginning at 6:30 a.m. on the lawn of the Connelly Memorial Baptist Church, Hershberger Road at Westside Boulevard Northwest.

\ CEDAR LAWN BURIAL PARK: 6:30 a.m. on Cove Road near its intersection with Peters Creek Road Northwest. The speaker will be the Rev. Nathan Leigh with music by Calvary Memorial Church singers. The rain site for this Christian Endeavor Union service will be the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America nearby on Peters Creek Road.

\ HIGHLAND PARK: The 6:30 a.m. worship service will be led by members of the Metropolitan Community Church of the Blue Ridge.

\ SHAWSVILLE: Beginning at 6 a.m. on the lawn of White Memorial United Methodist Church. A breakfast in the church will follow the service.

\ MASON COVE: Starting at 7 a.m. on the lawn of Mountain Pass Baptist Church, 2975 Catawba Valley Drive.
