PACS CASH LEAVES SELF-RULE IN PERIL

FIFTEEN senators in 1990 were given approximately $20 million in political-action committee monies. Fifteen representatives were given approximately $13 million.

Q.: Who gave the money and why? A.: Special-interest groups - corporations, rich businessmen for favors. Q.: What does this do to our democracy? A.: Reduces it for all of us taxpayers.

The "Keating five" received about $1.3 million from the infamous savings and loan - white-collar manipulation? Mr. Cranston, once a candidate for president, was found way out of line! The other four senators were given a flick on the wrist.

What about the rest of the iceberg sitting in the Senate? Is democracy slipping away from us?

Please, my cherished citizens, write our senators and representative requesting a cleanup of the election process! Level the candidates' ground with honesty. Help save representative government. CHARLES E. THORNTON ROANOKE
