BLAND SUPERVISORS OK REGIONAL LIBRARY BRANCH

The Bland County Board of Supervisors on Monday authorized the signing of a contract with the Smyth-Bland Regional Library Board to establish a branch library.

Bland County has been served by a bookmobile and a books-by-mail program through the Marion-based library. It is the only Virginia county west of Roanoke not to have its own library facility.

At one time, the supervisors considered leaving the regional system to set up a library on their own. Supervisor Gary Nelson still supported that option, voting against the contract that was approved 3-1.

Supporters of the branch library will meet April 11 at 7 p.m. at the courthouse to organize a Friends of the Library group.
