OFFICER ACCUSED OF WAVING GUN AT COUPLE

A Southwest Virginia police officer has been arrested on suspicion of pointing his service revolver at a couple in a passing car on Interstate 81.

Bristol Police Chief Tom Stone said Roderick Lynn Slate, 20, waved the gun at a local couple Sunday. The couple told police they were traveling alongside Slate near the Interstate 381 interchange when he began waving the gun at them for no apparent reason.

The chief said police were able to trace the car from the description given by the couple. Slate was arrested Tuesday.

Stone said police confiscated a 9mm semiautomatic pistol from Slate, who has been released on $500 bond. - Associated Press
