VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Florence Dieckmann has been with Youth Support Services for six years, working five hours a week to counsel youths ages 7-17 who either have committed an unlawful act or have exhibited socially unacceptable behavior that could lead to such an act.
Her work helps steer high-risk youths and minor juvenile offenders away from official court action and the stigma of a criminal record. Dieckmann also shares office responsibilities and trains new counselors.
For more information on volunteering as a Youth Support Services counselor, call 985-0200 Tuesdays between 1 and 5 p.m. The office is on the third floor of the YMCA building, at 425 Church Ave. S.W.
