Throughout the year, former pastors will lead special services beginning April 14 with John R. Brokhoff of Clearwater, Fla. He is the oldest living former pastor of the parish and was in Roanoke during the years of World War II. He will preach at 8:30 and 11 a.m. services.
On May 12, those who have been members for 50 or more years will be honored.
On May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn-Tanglewood, two more former pastors will speak: Frank Efird of Stuart, Fla., and Paul Morgan of High Point, N.C. The meal will cost $15 and is by reservation only.
Mark W. Radecke and Linda Mitchell are the current pastors of the church.
The June 9 speaker will be William F. Milholland of Hickory, N.C. He will be followed on June 20 by Bruce G. Osterhout of Reading, Pa. A picnic and outdoor service are scheduled that evening starting at 5 in Salem's Mowles Spring Park.
Malcolm L. Minnick Jr. of Chicago will be the guest on Sept. 8, and on Sept. 29 Billy Rutrough, who entered the ministry from Christ Church, will preach; he is from Ocean Springs, Mass. Another "son of the congregation," A.G. "Chip" Austin of Newport News, will visit on Oct. 20.
The Nov. 10 program commemorates the acceptance of the congregation into the Lutheran Synod of Virginia. Speaking will be Bishop Richard Bansemer of Salem. The final anniversary service on Dec. 1 will feature Dwayne J. Westermann, another former pastor who now serves College Church of Salem.
