The budget totals $2,826,429 and will be presented to the Craig County Board of Supervisors April 16.
The budget is the same as the one, which could be balanced only through painful cuts because of reduced revenue at all levels, that the school board drafted several weeks ago.
Dallas Helems, school superintendent, said the budget is $54,562 less than the current one because of overall reduced revenues.
Salaries of all school personnel had to be frozen to balance the budget, Helems said.
The budget does not include tuition payments for three students eligible to attend the Governor's School of Science and Technology in Roanoke.
A secretary in the administrative office will be put on a part-time status.
One school bus run will pick up another and four, instead of five, school buses will be replaced next year.
Also the budget reflects some savings by school personnel taking advantage of the state's new early-retirement incentive plan that will be in effect in the next fiscal year for one time only.
Helems said no school programs were cut in preparing the budget, but programs may suffer if the supervisors order further cuts.
The supervisors have said they are caught in the same financial squeeze as the school system and may find it difficult to prepare a general county budget that maintains essential programs with expected, but lower, revenues.
The supervisors have said they hope to get by without a tax increase.
On another matter, the school board adopted a tentative schedule for the 1991-92 school year. Schools open on Sept. 3, and graduation is June 12, 1992.
The Thanksgiving holiday is Nov. 28 and 29. For Christmas, the last day is Dec. 20 and students return on Jan. 6, 1992. Spring break is April 17-24, 1992.
