CELEBRATION TO FOCUS ON COUNTY GOVERNMENT

In celebration of National County Government Week, Roanoke County employees will be at Tanglewood Mall on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. to provide a variety of services.

Among the day's events will be:

Demonstrations of the county's "one-armed bandit" automated garbage trucks.

A recycling station, where residents can drop off bottles, aluminum cans and newspapers.

Voter registration.

Sale of dog licenses. Anyone wishing to buy a license must show their dog has been vaccinated for rabies.

Fingerprinting of children by the Police Department. McGruff the Crime Dog will make appearances at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Maps of possible redistricting plans will be displayed.

Deedie Kagey will be available to autograph her book, "A History of Roanoke County," from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.\
