The Bradley Free Clinic board of directors has announced the clinic's 1991 award winners. John and Kathryn Garvin and Dr. Randall R. Rhea were presented the Helen Van Rensselaer Philanthropy Awards.
The David Newman Awards for Volunteer Excellence went to Frank O'Brien, Thomas Garland and Thomas J. Harvey. These awards are presented annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to the free clinic.
Volunteer professionals, screeners, daytime volunteers and board members received Extra Mile Awards for their work with the medical and dental clinics. Cancer program wins 3-year accreditation
Upward Bound program to open registration
The Upward Bound program at Roanoke College will begin recruitment Tuesday through April 12 for its 1991-92 summer and fall college-preparatory sessions.
Interested students currently in the ninth, 10th or 11th grade and who attend Northside Junior High or Northside, Salem, Patrick Henry or William Fleming high schools should contact their guidance counselors for eligibility and program information.
All applications for admission must be turned in by May 3. Interviews will be conducted during the week of May 6. For information not available at the schools, call 375-2246 or 375-2314.
`Dance for Heart' event postponed to April 20
"Dance for Heart," an aerobic exercise event originally scheduled for March 16, has been postponed to April 20 from 9 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the Carter Athletic Center at North Cross School.
Dancers collect donations for every minute that they dance, with the funds to benefit the American Heart Association. There are four themes: country and western, corporate, sports and beach. Participants are encouraged to bring costumes for each theme.
