The game was shortened to six innings because of the 10-run "slaughter" rule.
Dalton, who will be attending Virginia Tech on a baseball scholarship next year, finished with seven runs batted in for the Knights (4-3 overall, 2-1 in the district). He hit two-run homers in the first and fourth innings and a three-run homer in the sixth.
Right-hander Lenny Navitskis (3-2) got the victory. He struck out five in five innings and gave up all three hits by Fleming (0-6, 0-3).
In other baseball:
At Christiansburg, Northside (1 1/2- 1/2) and the host Blue Demons (1 1/2-3 1/2) played nine innings but could not resolve a 6-6 tie before darkness forced the end of the non-district game.
The Vikings took a 6-0 lead in the first inning before Christiansburg battled back, catching up with a three-run fifth inning.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: At William Byrd, Manuel Goizueta scored three goals and the host Terriers (1-1, 1-0) opened their Blue Ridge District schedule with a 14-0 victory over Alleghany (0-3, 0-1).
Bernt Bjerkan and Stewart Kelly each had two goals and Chris Blevins had three assists for the Terriers, who outshot the Mountaineers 60-4.
At Waynesboro, four players scored and North Cross (8-0-1, 2-1) was in control from the start in a 4-0 Virginia Independent Conference victory over host Fishburne Military Academy (0-1).
At Patrick Henry, Heritage (1-0) got a goal from Mason Kell and beat the host Patriots 1-0 in a non-district match called at halftime because of lightning. The Patriots are 1-1.
\ SOFTBALL: At Wasena Park, senior Amoreli Ronquillo hit two two-run home runs in a 23-run first inning, and Roanoke Catholic went on to pound visiting Carlisle 33-0 at Wasena Park.
Sarah Brady went 3-for-3 with five RBI, including two-run homer, a triple and a single for the Celtics (2-0), who benefited from 14 walks.
The Chiefs are 0-2.
At Lynchburg, Blair Calvert went 4-for-4 with three RBI to lead North Cross (6-0, 2-0) to a 14-3 Blue Ridge Conference victory over Lynchburg Christian Academy (0-4, 0-4).
At New Castle, three Rockbridge pitchers combined to walk 27 and Craig County (2-2, 2-1) took advantage for a 26-11 Pioneer District victory. The Rebels are 0-2, 0-1.
At Lynchburg, despite surrendering four home runs and three triples, host Holy Cross defeated Roanoke Valley Christian 18-15 in a Blue Ridge Conference game.
RVC outhit Holy Cross 15-9 but could not overcome eight walks and eight errors.
Amanda Thomas had two homers and a triple and five RBI for the Eagles.
At Alleghany, the host Mountaineers (1-3) got four hits each from Nicole Curtis and Tonia Nelson on the way to a 35-17 non-district victory over William Fleming (1-4).
Alleghany took advantage of 20 walks by Fleming pitchers to score 10 runs in each of the first two innings.
\ LACROSSE: At Salem, Troy Jamison scored three goals and Clay Persinger and John Lesko added two each as visiting Patrick Henry (1-1) took an 8-3 victory over the Spartans (0-2).
