GM recalls buses, cars

General Motors Corp. of Detroit has recalled 15,000 Chevrolet school buses because of a potential drivetrain problem.

It also recalled about 418,000 1987-90 cars equipped with Quad 4 engines because of potential emission problems.

GM said it was unaware of any accidents or injuries caused by the problems.

It said bolts on the 1986-90 model bus' parking brake drum attachment could loosen and result in the transmission locking up and low speed or when stopped.

The auto recall is for 1987-90 models of the Oldsmobile Calais, 1988-90 models of the Pontiac Grand Am and Buick Skylark, and 1990 models of the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and Chevrolet Beretta GTZ cars.

The company said ignition coil cases could crack, which could cause engine misfire and excessive pollution. Owners are being notified by mail the ignition coils should be replaced.

Repairs in both recalls will be performed free.
