CLINCH VALLEY RAISES TUITION 12 PERCENT

Tuition and fees at Clinch Valley College will increase 12 percent for the 1991-92 school year as the college deals with cuts in state aid to education.

Room and board is going up by 5.2 percent, Chancellor Jim Knight told the college's advisory council Friday.

After budget reductions this past year, the state provided Clinch Valley about $4.7 million for the 1990-91 school year. That will be dropped to $4.5 million this coming school year if the state's revenues come in as projected, officials said.

College officials say they have been told to brace for possible reductions this year of an additional 6.5 percent.

In-state tuition will be increased by $100 to $1,644 per year; out-of-state tuition will jump by $300 to $3,524.

Student fees will increase by $144, most of which will be directed toward athletics and new intercollegiate programs the college is initiating. Student fees are currently $492 per year.
