VETERAN ARIZ. REPRESENTATIVE TO RESIGN

Rep. Morris Udall, disabled by Parkinson's Disease and the effects of a fall, will resign his House seat possibly as soon as this week, associates of the veteran lawmaker said Monday.

The Arizona Democrat, revered by party liberals, has served in the House since 1961 when he won the seat vacated by his brother Stewart, who became secretary of the Interior in President Kennedy's Cabinet.

Parkinson's disease is an incurable disorder of the central nervous system. Earlier this year, Morris Udall, 69, turned over his duties as chairman of the House Interior Committee, though not the title, to Rep. George Miller, D-Calif. - Associated Press
