JUDGE GIVES MAXIMUM TO FORMER ADMINISTRATOR

A judge imposed the maximum sentence on a former Nelson County administrator for possession of marijuana.

But Circuit Judge J. Samuel Johnston suspended all but 90 days of a 12-month jail term and allowed George Krieger Jr. to serve his sentence as a work-release prisoner. Krieger also was fined $2,500.

"I hope this will deter others," Johnston said Thursday. "You have to be punished . . . but you will get through it."

Krieger, who now designs and builds kitchens, asked to begin the sentence Monday night - a week sooner than Johnston proposed.
