ECONOMY AUGURS ILL FOR PSYCHICS
Declining membership in the Association for Research and Enlightenment has triggered a 25 percent cut in the association's employees, group officials said. The recession has hit the A.R.E.
The A.R.E was founded in 1931 by Edgar Cayce, the psychic whose 14,000 readings are the heart of the center. Cayce, who died in 1945, gave the readings while in a trance on subjects ranging from the diagnosis of individual illnesses to theories of reincarnation.
Membership stands at about 54,000 and revenues are down by 24 percent from last year. By the end of 1991, the staff was to be cut to 85 full-time positions.
