Roscoe "Buck" Farmer, who lost his rented shoe shop when the old Hotel Earle burned in August, is still shopless.City Market restoration has raised rents. "It's gone crazy," said Farmer, operator of the Belmont Shoe Hospital almost 45 years. "You can't afford it."
One place might work out, but he'd have to fix it up.
Farmer, 71, hasn't been feeling great, so he isn't rushing into anything. His customers still call, wondering when he'll reopen. If he finds the right place, maybe he will.
