DONATIONS SOUGHT FOR MEALS PROGRAM
A new hot meals program will begin soon in Radford at the Church of God in Christ and donations are needed to help make it happen.Volunteers have so far raised about $2,700 to help start the Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread, which will serve free meals five days a week. Another $12,000 is needed for renovations and to buy used equipment, such as a refrigerator, freezer, oven and dishwasher.
Much of the food will be donated, but money also is needed to help stock the shelves.
"Every day we get more money," said Maureen Weyer, co-chairman of the meals program. "This will happen and we're getting closer."
Because the Daily Bread has not yet received non-profit status, donations may be sent in the organization's name to the Presbyterian Church of Radford, 201 Fourth St., Radford, Va. 24141 or call Weyer at 639-2099 for information on how to volunteer.
