WOMAN TAKES SEAT ONCE HELD BY HER SON

Mary Guynn has been named to Galax City Council to complete a term that started out as her son's.

Jay Guynn was elected for a term that ends June 30. When he moved out of town last May, Marty Parks was named to complete it. Now Parks has stepped down to become the new Grayson County commonwealth's attorney, a job to which he was appointed after the death of Paul X Bolt in November.

Council voted unanimously to name Mary Guynn to the seat Friday. - Southwest bureau
