W.VA. MAN CHARGED AFTER GILES BREAK-IN
A Princeton, W.Va., man was charged with breaking and entering, grand larceny and reckless driving following an early-morning break-in Tuesday at the Sears store in Giles County.Bernard W. Cole, 24, was in the Giles County Jail in lieu of a $40,000 bond, said Gary Price, an investigator with the Giles County Sheriff's Department.
Price said a county deputy drove to the store on U.S. 460 west of Pearisburg after an alarm was activated about 1:50 a.m. The deputy found the front glass door was broken and saw people in the store.
A car pulled out from near the store, and the deputy pursued the vehicle, Price said. Pearisburg police responded a minute or so later, but at least one other person fled on foot.
The deputy pursued the vehicle on U.S. 460 into Narrows, where a Narrows police officer also joined the chase, Price said.
The driver lost control of the car in sharp curves, wrecked about a mile west of Narrows and fled, Price said. Tracking dogs were called in and Cole was apprehended in a residential section of Rich Creek.
