Vols win junior division in Terrier tournamentThe Mason Cove Volunteers defeated the Williamson Road Cardinals to win the junior division championship in the Terrier Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament, held recently in Vinton.
The 13- and 14-year-old Vols were undefeated in the tournament, which was sponsored by the Terrier and Lady Terrier basketball booster clubs.
Players were Nathan Birckhead, Jason Custer, Ben Bowman, Dan Lineberry, Rustin Bailey, Matthew Desper, Jason Desper, Chris Bowen, Jason Bryant, Robert Arnold and Chad Rice.
David Desper, head coach, was assisted by Donn Bailey and John Birckhead.
Roanoke Valley SPCA to hold aerobics event
"Leap Day for the SPCA," an aerobics marathon to benefit the Roanoke Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, will be held Feb. 29 1-5 p.m. at Tanglewood Mall.
Regular aerobics participants are needed to collect pledges and compete for prizes. Each participant must collect at least 10 pledged memberships to the SPCA in order to enter.
The Roanoke Central YMCA will provide instructors and supervision for the event.
