PAYING CONSULTANTS TO MAKE DECISIONS

IT JUST doesn't make sense for leaves to be piled in front of people's homes for three months, rotting and spilling over into drains and pipes in driveways, and doubtless into the sewer system.

If the city manager can allot $34,000 for a consultant team to determine whether certain city employees need a raise and deny the taxpayers of this city the duties of city employees to perform jobs that taxpayers have financed, it is time someone let the city manager know he is derelict in his duties.

Besides, it is the city manager's duty to determine himself what city employees deserve a raise without spending taxpayers' money for consultants. Incidentally, the leaves in front of Mr. Herbert's property are no longer there. How come? They are everywhere else in town, but I guess the city sweepers next spring will sweep them back in our yards.

Mr. Herbert, the next time you go before council, you might ask them to allow you to tax the air we breathe. You have taxed everything else, the food we eat, the water we drink, etc., etc., etc. The voters and taxpayers of the city should let you know how they feel. ALLAN TURNER ROANOKE
