COURT DATES DELAYED FOR BUCHANAN OFFICIALS
A Buchanan County Circuit Court judge has delayed setting court dates for 11 past and present Buchanan County officials who were indicted on 293 charges ranging from embezzlement to falsifying documents. The defendants appeared Monday before Judge Nicholas Persin, who agreed with the prosecution's request for more time because of the number of defendants and lawyers involved.
Persin said he will wait until Jan. 27 to set court dates.
The indictments were returned in October as part of an investigation by a special grand jury.
Seven of those indicted were members of the Board of Supervisors when they were indicted. County employees Betty Bostic and Burnard Taylor also were indicted along with County Administrator Guy Boyd and Social Services Director Thomas Holland Jr. - Associated Press
