RADFORD NIPS CHANTICLEERS
Don Burgess tipped in Brian Schmall's partially blocked layup attempt with four seconds left to lift Radford over Coastal Carolina 58-56 in a Big South Conference basketball game on Monday at Kimbel Gymnasium. The Highlanders (10-6 overall, 4-0 Big South) ended the Chanticleers' 21-game home winning streak, which was sixth longest in the country.
Doug Day led Radford with 17 points.
Sophomore J.J. Foster, who scored his nine points on 3-pointers, sank a 3-pointer to pull the Chanticleers to 54-53. After a Radford timeout, Schmall made a layup. A free throw pulled the Chanticleers to 56-54, then Tony Dunkin pulled Coastal Carolina even when he converted a free throw and bonus. That set up Burgess' tip.
Dunkin led Coastal Carolina (6-11, 2-1) with 20 points. \
