TECH GROUP HOLDING POWER-LINE FORUM
Ecocycle, a Virginia Tech environmental student group, is hosting a forum on the proposed 765,000-volt power line from West Virginia to Cloverdale. The forum is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the Donaldson Brown Center on the Tech campus. The public is invited.
Appalachian Power Co., which is proposing the line, will have representatives at the forum, said Ecocycle spokesman Jeff Gauldin.
Common Ground, a citizens opposition group based in Craig County, will be at the meeting. Both sides will present their views on the project.
Ecocycle also hopes to have Tech biology, geology and forestry professors on hand to offer their expertise on potential impacts of the power line.
The line would cross four counties in West Virginia and four in Virginia, including part of the Jefferson National Forest. Apco wants to build the line to meet customer demand by 1998, which includes providing electricity for other companies in the growing eastern part of Virginia.
