DOOR NO. 1 FOR NUDITY
The nudie musical "Oh! Calcutta!" may not draw as many fans as the Michael Bolton concert at the Roanoke Civic Center on Saturday night, but the intermingling audiences ought to make for some interesting conversations - parking-lot skirmishes, for instance.Billed as the longest-running erotic stage musical, "Oh! Calcutta!" is a compilation of 13 sketches with written contributions from Sam Shepard, Samuel Beckett, John Lennon and Jules Feiffer. Topics include: sex.
Audiences have been turning out for the show since 1969, despite the naked truth from reviewers who recommend passing it up.
As for Bolton, the star of the sap set, reviews have been much more favorable, with one describing a Bolton concert as a 90-minute lovefest:
"Bolton gave his audience of mostly female fans what they long to hear, and they in turn showered him with cards, flowers, stuffed animals . . . and a bag of vegetables."
We just hope no one gets the doors mixed up on the way in. Imagine the sure-to-be riot provoked by zucchini squash and bare buns on the same stage!
