Natural Bridge Baptist missions add coordinatorThe Natural Bridge Baptist Association, which is affiliated with the Virginia Association of Southern Baptists, is expanding its mission service with the addition of a part-time secretarial coordinator, Jean King of Clifton Forge. The Rev. William Mattox, a pastor in the association for more than 22 years, said approval of the central office at the 1991 annual meeting of the association is meant to bring more efficiency to its work.
He noted that the 20 congregations in Alleghany, Rockbridge, Bath and Highland counties that make up the association are moving toward employment of a full-time coordinator.
- Staff report Success reported in venison program
A new program of the Society of St. Andrew in which hunters donated venison to help feed the hungry exceeded expectations for success, a staff member of the Bedford County Christian community has announced. In its first season, the hunting program resulted in more than 20,000 pounds of deer meat being made available through community food pantries for the needy. David Home, manager of the program, said a goal of 15,000 had been set.
The hunting program is the latest promoted by the society, which also runs Harvest of Hope and the Potato Project. Harvest of Hope, a modern form of field gleaning, is now headed by Julie Taylor of Bedford. - Staff report
