Dominion Resources

Dominion Resources Inc., Richmond-based parent of Virginia Power, on Friday reported earnings for the 12 months ended Dec. 31 of $4.41 per share, up 3 cents from earnings of $4.38 per share in 1990. The utility and real estate development company said net income last year was $459.9 million on operating revenues and other income of $3.8 billion. Net income rose 3.2 percent from $445.7 million and operating revenues were up 7.2 percent from $3.5 billion a year earlier.

For the fourth quarter of 1991, consolidated earnings per share were 81 cents, up 10 cents from 71 cents per share earned during the same period in 1990. Net income in the fourth quarter of 1991 was $84.9 million, up 16 percent compared to $73.0 million for the same period in 1990.

Caterpillar Inc.

Caterpillar Inc., the Peoria, Ill.-based parent of Carter Machinery Co. Inc. of Salem, reported a loss of $404 million for 1991, compared with net income of $210 million in 1990. The loss last year equaled $4 a common share, compared with earnings of $2.07 a share a year earlier. Operating revenue and sales were $10.2 billion in 1991, down 11 percent from $11.4 billion in 1990.

The loss for the fourth quarter was $318 million or $3.16 per share, compared to a profit of $11 million or 11 cents per share in the same quarter of 1990. Sales and revenues of $2.46 billion were $299 million lower than the same period a year ago.
