BRIEFLY PUT . . .
REPUBLICANS made big gains in the November legislative elections, but the ruling Democrats continued to short them on money-committee assignments: only three of 15 seats on Senate Finance, and four of 20 on House Appropriations. That piece of arrogance won't make the Democrats any more popular come the next election; it denies the representation rights of thousands of Virginians; and it won't make good answers to Virginia's budget crunch any easier to come by.
More than 45 percent of the Senate is in GOP hands, more than 40 percent of the House. The Democrats may not like it, but they ought to learn to accommodate it - for their own good as well as Virginia's.
