WHY IS BEAMER GETTING JOB OFFERS?

ED SHAMY brought up a good point in his Jan. 3 column. Why is Frank Beamer getting all of these job offers, considering his record?

Shamy also stated: "Hoagie fans can whine about money . . . the tough schedule . . . the bad bounces," but this is something most colleges complain about, isn't it? And in regard to their "whining about Brill," no one else needed to. Brill wasn't known as a big Tech supporter. Neutrality wasn't one of his better points.

It appears to me that whatever heights Beamer is climbing to, he's planning on taking the Hokies with him. I would second-guess his decision to stay at Tech, but I guess it's a matter of pride. Besides, I stopped second-guessing Frank in the 1990 Tech-UVa game at Lane Stadium. He doesn't need my opinion, and we don't need Shamy's. DENNY BROOMS FRIES
