BRESKE, PAUL A.

Paul Alan Breske, age 52, died Sunday, January 26, 1992, at his home. He was born in Racine, Wisconsin, where he attended Christ Congregational Church and graduated in 1957 from Horlick High School. While living in Racine, he was an active member of the Racine Theatre Guild. He received a B.M. degree in 1962 and a M.M. degree in 1964 from the University of Wisconsin. Paul was pianist for the performing organization, "Haresfoot", arranger/pianist for the Wisconsin Idea Theatre, and conducted the Wisconsin All-State 4-H Band for three years. He was one of the founders of "On Stage Tonight", a musical revue that performed in Madison, The Wisconsin Dells, and USO Tours to Europe and the Far North Command. He taught in the Music Department at Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1969, he came to Virginia Tech where he was accompanist/arranger for the Virginia Tech Men's Glee Club. He helped to co-found the New Virginians for which he was arranger/conductor. After twenty years of service to Virginia Tech he retired in 1990. For thirteen years he was also musical director of the Miss Virginia Pageant and arranged music for several Miss America contestants. Paul felt special joy in producing shows and performing with his wife throughout the area. He was also a member of Blacksburg Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Karp Breske; four sons, Adam Alexander Breske, Daniel Christopher Breske, David Lee Louis Breske, Michael Paul Breske, all of the home; his mother, Ann Marie Breske, Racine, Wisconsin. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Blacksburg Baptist Church. Dr. Ray Allen will officiate. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Blacksburg Baptist Church, 550 North Main Street, Blacksburg, Va., 24060, or to the Paul Breske Memorial Scholarship Fund, 164 Squires Student Center, Blacksburg, Va., 24061-0125. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
