KNIGHTS GET EVEN WITH VIKINGS
Chris Webster paced four Cave Spring players in double figures with 24 points as the Knights defeated Northside 77-61 in a non-district boys' basketball game Tuesday night.The victory avenged the Knights' 13-point loss at home to the Vikings.
After the teams tied at 18 after one quarter, Cave Spring (8-6) took the lead in the second quarter and never trailed again.
The Knights picked apart Northside's defense by working their half-court offense to perfection. Cave Spring dominated the rebounding 30-19.
Kerry Whitt added 13 points for the Knights, Dirk Hanks had 11 and Jason Lavinder put in 10.
Northside (11-3) was paced by Kelly Dampeer's 15 points. Aaron Burford added 14, and Matt Hill and Walt Derey had 11 apiece. \

Reggie Reynolds hit two free throws with two seconds remaining to lift the host Colonels to a non-district win over the Patriots.
William Fleming (9-4) was led by 22 points from David Williams, and Reynolds added 16.
The Colonels led by 13 points at halftime and survived a second-half charge by Albemarle (7-7).
DuPratt Johnson paced Albemarle (7-7) with 17 points. \

LYNCHBURG - The Patriots rolled to a 30-11 halftime lead and coasted to the non-district victory over the outmanned Pioneers.
Shannon Taylor led Patrick Henry (15-1) with 14 points, Turk Smith added 13 and Jonas Callis 11.
E.G. Reid's 21 points paced Heritage (6-8). \

MONTEREY - The Highlanders ended a three-game losing streak by smashing the Rams in a Pioneer District game.
Matt Woolwine scored 16 points, Jason Woolwine 13, Steve Ashworth 10 and Wes Jones 10 for Glenvar (8-3, 8-3).
Chris Schill had 14 and Micah Ginn 11 for Highland (2-10, 2-9). \

BUCHANAN - Solan Wooden scored eight of his 15 points in the second quarter when the Knights took control for a Pioneer District victory over the Fightin' Blues.
Leading 8-5 after a quarter, James River (8-5, 8-4) outscored Parry McCluer 23-9 in the second.
Wooden was 7-for-8 on field-goal attempts. Ryan Shotwell scored 13 points, and Jody Steger and Tony Thompson added 10 points each for the Knights.
Parry McCluer (5-7, 4-6) got a game-high 25 points from Leslie Grey, but only three other Blues scored. \

LEXINGTON - Gavin Clark scored 27 points as the Scarlet Hurricane won handily despite a 36-point performance by Rockets guard David McPherson in the Pioneer District game.
Ethan Emma added 17 points and Jesse Baker and Martin Mayerchek each had 12 for Lexington (7-6, 5-6), which led all the way.
Bobby Huffman contributed 10 points for Craig County (2-11, 2-9). \
North Cross 50
Roanoke Valley Christian 49
Hal Johnson sank a 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining to give the Raiders a dramatic Virginia Independent Conference victory over the visiting Eagles.
With Roanoke Valley Christian (8-8, 6-5) leading 49-47 on a jumper by Aaron Hassell, North Cross (9-9, 6-4) missed two inside shots, but Stuart Baucom grabbed an offensive rebound and passed the ball outside to Johnson, who was set up for the winning shot. Baucom sealed the victory by making a steal as the Eagles brought the ball upcourt.
North Cross led by 10 in the third quarter but slowly let the lead dwindle.
Johnson led the Raiders with 14 points, and Marcus Cartwell scored 12 and had 10 rebounds. Ryan Cook also had 10 rebounds.
Aaron Slocomb paced Roanoke Valley Christian with 20 points, and Aaron Hassell had 12. \

LYNCHBURG - The Gaels took a 19-6 first-quarter lead and never trailed in beating the Celtics in a Virginia Independent Conference game.
Vernon Patterson scored 21 points and Kevin Brady had five 3-pointers and 20 points for Holy Cross (13-8, 9-1).
Mike Kolnok led Roanoke Catholic (9-7, 5-5) with 11 points. \

Danae Wegner scored 22 points as the Eagles (11-4, 8-0) dominated visiting Stuart Hall in Blue Ridge Conference play.

LYNCHBURG - Angie Coleman scored 19 points as Timberlake Christian rolled past the visiting Raiders in a Blue Ridge District game.
