VIKINGS' BAKER TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT LIBERTY

John Baker, considered one of the top football prospects in the Roanoke Valley before an early season knee injury, has made an oral commitment to Liberty.

Baker, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder, played linebacker for Northside High School but was recruited by Liberty as a defensive end. He had been in contact with VMI and Marshall when he committed to the Flames.

Baker played basketball for the Vikings until he left the team after the fourth game in a dispute over playing time. He averaged 24.7 points and 7.5 rebounds as a junior, when he was an All-Group AA selection. -Staff report
