Gardner-Denver Mining and Construction, a Roanoke division of Cooper Industries, said Thursday it has hired seven welders but its business remains flat and 52 employees remain on layoff. Spokeswoman Cathy Staples said the welding department was understaffed. The drill plant is busy, but customers demand shorter delivery times because of economic uncertainty, she said.
Automatic Transmission Specialist Inc. has merged with ConTech Inc., an automotive company specializing in rebuilding automatic transmission torque converters. The business will operate as Automatic Transmission Specialist in an expanded facility on Gus Nicks Boulevard.
Jimmy Dean Foods, a Cordova, Tenn.-based unit of Sara Lee Corp., said it has replaced its Green Hill brand foods in Virginia supermarkets with its Rudy's Farm Co. breakfast sausage and microwave sandwiches.
LCR Technologies Inc., a company remanufacturing toner cartridges for laser jet printers, has opened at 2740 Franklin Road, Roanoke. Dave Beatty is managing the operation, a branch of the Dallas-based company.
IntelliSys, a company providing computer systems designs, custom programming and consulting for businesses, has moved from Chapel Hill, N.C., to Roanoke. Robert Bean is the president.
