FAMILY LOSES TRAILER IN FIRE

Donations of clothing, household items and money are being collected for a man and his three sons who lost their home in a trailer fire Wednesday.

Ricky Akers, 37, and his sons, Ricky Allen Akers, 17; Eric Akers, 16; and Andy Akers, 7, need jeans, shirts, jackets and household items, said Gina Cook, a friend.

The fire happened at Long's Trailer Park and was accidental, Christiansburg Fire Chief Jim Epperly said. The fire probably started in the electrical box area.

Cook said the trailer was gutted. The family is getting a motel room until other accommodations can be found, she said.

The teen-agers need jeans size 30 waist, 32 length; the father wears size 33 waist, 32 length. The 7-year-old wears size seven. Medium- and large-size shirts and jackets are needed.

Cook said Akers was laid off from AT&T and works part time at his father's cabinet shop in Pulaski.

Money donations may be mailed to NationsBank, P.O. Box 3486, Radford, Va. 24143. Checks should be made payable to Ricky Akers and sent to the attention of Joann Sowers.
