LAUREL PARK'S HODGE: 47 POINTS, 30 REBOUNDS

Odell Hodge continued his assault on the Piedmont District and the Virginia High School League all-time scoring list Friday night.

The Laurel Park senior center scored 47 points, grabbed 30 rebounds and blocked six shots to lead the Lancers to a 99-71 basketball victory over Tunstall.

Hodge, who has 88 points in his past two games, moved into eighth place on the VHSL list with 2,192 career points. With his effort Friday, Hodge passed Harold Jefferson (2,149 points) of Matoaca High, Jeff Owen (2,157) of Cleveland High, Clyde "The Glide" Austin (2,158) of Maggie Walker and Mike Porter (2,177) of Pulaski County.

With six regular-season games and tournament action left, Hodge has an outside chance of surpassing Steve Marsee of Pennington High as the all-time VHSL scorer. Marsee scored 2,459 points between 1973 and 1976.

After Tunstall pulled to 45-41 early in the third quarter, Laurel Park (13-2 overall, 12-0 Piedmont) went on a 12-0 run, sparked by Hodge. He had 19 points in the quarter.

The Lancers skewered the Trojans (6-8, 6-6) in the second half, outscoring them 56-34. Hodge, the reigning Timesland Player of the Year who has committed to Old Dominion, had 29 points and 14 rebounds in the second half.

Ronnie Jackson added 19 points for Laurel Park, which was 24-of-28 at the free-throw line. \
