TAXES ARE ONLY REASON WE'RE IN A RECESSION
LEAVE IT to the liberal-loving Roanoke Times & World-News to craft a series (no less!) of editorials urging that we pay new and more taxes. It's a case of taking more bad medicine just because the previous doses didn't work. The reason we are in an economic recession is taxes, and only taxes. About a year ago, Congress (not President Bush!) forced new taxes upon us, and the economy went sour.
Now the Roanoke Times & World-News wishes to compound the problem for Virginians by taxing more at the state level. Stop and think. We can't spend it after governments get it. And they waste much of what they get.
I simply wish your editors had studied Economics 101 instead of lofty Journalism 412 and the Democrat Party credo. ROBERT A. HUDDLESTON COVINGTON
