GIRL BEATS FATHER'S SCORING RECORD
Kristen Somogyi made the New Jersey high school basketball scoring record a family matter. The 5-foot-5 senior guard scored 42 points Saturday night as St. Peter's beat Red Bank Catholic 80-58, increasing her career total to 3,327. That broke the previous state record of 3,310, set from 1964-68 by John Somogyi, her father.
Kristen, who plans to attend the University of Virginia, needed 26 points for the record and reached 25 when a free throw capped a three-point play. Two possessions later, she pulled up right of the key and hit a 3-pointer.
