RICHMOND HOMICIDES AHEAD OF 1991 PACE
A triple slaying and another multiple shooting have put the city well ahead of last year's record homicide pace.Three people were shot inside a home about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. "A gunman came in, shot everybody up, and left," police Lt. O.T. Clarke said.
Earlier, a 23-year-old woman and her brother were shot as the woman's three young children looked on. James Henry Roane Jr. was charged with attempting to murder the woman's 7-year-old son and was being investigated in the shooting of the boy's mother and the slaying of his uncle, Clarke said.
Martha McCoy, 23, was shot several times in the stomach and arms. The assailant shot her brother, Torrick Brown, 26, in the upper body. He died inside the apartment.
McCoy was in critical but stable condition at a hospital Monday.
Later Saturday night, police went to another house and found two people dead and another dying.
Tony Carter was found on the kitchen floor. He had been shot in the head and neck.
Bobby Long, 34, was found outside the home. He had been shot in the head.
The third victim, a woman whose identity had not been determined, was found in the home and had been shot in the back.
The homicides bring the city's total this year to 23. The number on Feb. 3 last year was 11. A record 116 slayings occurred in Richmond in 1991.
