RIDGEWAY MAN DIES FROM WRECK INJURIES
A Ridgeway man died Sunday afternoon as a result of injuries suffered in an accident Saturday morning on northbound U.S. 220 in Ridgeway.David Wray Stanford, 29, and Charles S. Purcell were thrown from a jeep when the vehicle struck a car in the right rear corner, veered to the right, then turned back into the highway and flipped into the median, state police said.
Although the jeep, which had its top thrown off in the accident, was equipped with a roll bar, neither man was wearing a seat belt.
Stanford was airlifted to the University of Virginia hospital, where he died Sunday at 1:05 p.m. of head and spinal injuries, police said.
The driver of the other car was not injured.
