LEADERSHIP TRAINING TOPIC OF E&H SPEECH

Charles Barron, a speaker, author and activist on issues affecting black Americans, will speak on progressive student leadership for the '90s at Emory & Henry College Thursday at 7 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

Barron joined the Black Panther Party in the late 1960s, working on community issues in Harlem in his native New York. He became interested in expressing activism through educational and religious institutions, graduated from Hunter College, and joined the staff of the National Black United Front.

His work took him to other countries including Grenada, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. In 1987, he founded a corporation to provide eight-week leadership training for black Americans. - Southwest bureau
