GEOLOGY LECTURE AT TECH MUSEUM
The Virginia Museum of National History at Virginia Tech will sponsor a lecture on "The Geology of Karst Development" Feb. 13, 7:30-8:30 p.m.On Feb. 19, a panel on "Local Karst Issues and How They Relate to Water Resources" will be held at the museum, 7:30-9 p.m.
Karst is limestone geological formations with sinkholes, ravines and underground streams. During the lecture, William Henika, Virginia Division of Mineral Resources geologist, will talk about the structure and potential hazards of karst systems, giving local examples.
The panel is co-sponsored by the Montgomery County League of Women Voters. David Hirshman, Tech's urban affairs and planning department research associate, will give a brief introduction to karst.
