STREAKING COUGARS TRIP HERITAGE 74-59
Chris Burns and Rasheeh Jackson scored 19 points each Tuesday to lead Pulaski County to a 74-59 boys' basketball victory over Heritage, the Cougars' seventh consecutive win.Playing in its fourth game in five nights, Pulaski County (10-6) took control of the non-district contest in the second quarter, outscoring Heritage 25-12 and taking a 41-27 lead into the half.
Chris Foster scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as the Cougars outrebounded the Pioneers 43-29. Eric Webb snatched 10 rebounds for Pulaski.
Also standing out for the Cougars was Kevin Alexander, who dished out 11 assists.
Heritage (6-11) was led by Mike Preston, who scored 26 points. Preston made six 3-pointers, but four came in the fourth quarter with the game all but won by Pulaski. \
Auburn 78
Rocky Gap 54
RINER - Todd Collins hit two 3-pointers in the first half to put Auburn up 6-2. The Eagles then just extended their lead and went on to defeat Rocky Gap in a Mountain Empire District game.
Terry Millirons scored the first seven points of the third quarter to give Auburn (9-5, 8-4) a 38-18 lead. Rocky Gap (3-10 overall, 3-10 district) closed to 11 with three minutes to go in the game, but that was as close as it got.
\ Fort Chiswell 100
Shawsville 62
MAX MEADOWS - Fort Chiswell scored its first 100-point game of the season to defeat Shawsville in a Mountain Empire District game.
The Pioneers dominated on defense. They had 20 steals and 20 assists for the game and 12 in the first half.
Although Doug Mabry only scored nine points, he led Fort Chiswell with eight steals and eight assists.
Brian Lampkins scored 21 of his 28 points in the second half for Fort Chiswell (12-3, 10-3).
B.W. Hill had a strong game for the Pioneers with 22 points. It was Hill's first game after sitting out most of the season with a broken arm. \
Floyd County 97
Narrows 70
NARROWS - Floyd County hit 73 percent (21-29) from the field in the first half to defeat Narrows in a Mountain Empire District game.
Narrows (6-7 overall, 6-7 district) couldn't handle the Buffaloes quickness or their big man Jason Light, who scored 23 points.
Floyd had four other people score in double figures. They were Travis Crawford with 18 points followed by Fred Via, Mike Hylton and Jeremy Delaney each with 10.
McCreery Mann led the Green Wave with 11 points. \
Tazewell 55

TAZEWELL - Chris Webb scored 18 points and Ben Lockhart added 16 as the Bulldogs got past Christiansburg in a non-district game.
Eddie Bentley led the Demons (5-11) with 18 points and Steve Gregory finished with 15. \
Grayson County 65

PEARISBURG - The Blue Devils dominated the backboards and the game from the beginning in routing their Mountain Empire District foe.
Giles (1-12, 1-12) scored 12 first-half points and faced a 25-point deficit entering the third quarter, from which it never recovered.
Grayson County (12-4 overall, 11-2 district) was led by Mitch Hawks, who scored 13 points and Bonner Satterwhite, who added 12.
The Spartans were led by Rusty Newby with 13 points and Brent Rampey with 12. \
Amherst County 58
Jefferson Forest 55
FOREST - Justin Johannes scored 22 points to lead Amherst County to a Seminole District victory.
The game was 52-52 late in the fourth quarter before Amherst County (10-5) pulled away. Charlie Johnson had 13 points and Steve Bennett 12.
For the Cavaliers (9-6, 9-6) Barret Bryant had 15 points and Ryan Gilleland 14. \
Nelson County 62
Liberty 53
LOVINGTON - A 22-10 third-quarter run pushed the Governors past Liberty in a Seminole District game.
Tyrone Revely scored 13 points to lead five players in double figures for Nelson County (8-7, 8-7). Wayne Carter had 12 and Anthony Turner, Tommy Vaughan and Charles Johnson scored 10 each.
Scott Martin had a game-high 18 points for the Minutemen (6-10, 6-10), and Chris Dean had 10. \

Mercer (W.Va.) Christian 62
PRINCETON, W.Va. - Brad Ewing sank two free throws with three seconds left to lift the Crusaders to their first triumph in seven years of trying on the Cavaliers' home court.
After Scott Dickerson's layup tied the game at 62 with :06 left, Ewing was fouled while dribbling the ball up the court. He converted both ends of the one-and-one. A 65-foot desperate heave by Mercer's Joey Young rattled off the rim at the horn.
Tim Henderson and Ewing led Gateway (12-5) with 20 points apiece. \
