FT ACCURACY SPARKS FIELDALE-COLLINSVILLE WIN
Sharp free-throw shooting helped visiting Fieldale-Collinsville rally to score an 80-69 Piedmont District upset over Magna Vista on Tuesday night.The Cavaliers (9-6, 7-6) made 27 of 33 foul shots for the game. Scott Chitwood, who led the Warriors with 21 points, made 11 of 12 at the line.
Magna Vista (11-4, 9-4) led 45-39 at halftime, but Fieldale-Collinsville took the lead and the momentum on a 3-pointer by Ben Seay at the third-quarter buzzer.
The Warriors protected the lead at the foul line. Seay was 4-for-4 in the final quarter and Thad Wade, who finished with 14 points, was 3-for-4.
Lemuel Jones threw in 20 points for Fieldale-Collinsville and Seay scored 12.
Rodney Redd led the Warriors with 25 points. Brian Taylor added 13 and Rodney Tanks 11. \

CHATHAM - The Wildcats went 6-for-6 at the free-throw line in the final 30 seconds to preserve a Piedmont District victory.
Sonny Motley led Dan River (5-11, 4-9) with 20 points and Brian Gunn added 19, seven in the fourth quarter, when the Wildcats outscored Chatham 27-16. Roderick Davis finished with 14 points.
Chris Turner scored 14 to lead the Cavaliers. LaVelton Pope and Tim White had 13 each. \

DRY FORK - Tarrace Carter, playing with four fouls, scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half to spark the Trojans (7-8, 7-6) to the Piedmont District victory over the Hawks (6-10, 4-9).
Tunstall led 52-46 after three quarters but put the game away with a 28-16 outburst in the fourth. The Trojans made nine of 10 free throws down the stretch.
Greg Gammon added 16 for Tunstall. Eric Waller had a game-high 28 for Gretna. \

MARTINSVILLE - Demetriz Martin paced a balanced Martinsville attack with 18 points as the Bulldogs dumped the Bengals in a Piedmont District game.
Michael Frazier added 16 points and Jason O'Dell 12 as Martinsville improved to 12-2 overall, 11-2 in the league. Dytanyon Norman led Bassett (8-7, 7-6) with a game-high 24 points. \

MARTINSVILLE - The Cougars weren't going to let Odell Hodge do the same thing to them that he did against Laurel Park's previous two foes, so they didn't let him have the ball. In fact, they tried not to let any of the Lancers have the ball.
However, the slowdown served only to keep the score respectable and Laurel Park (14-2) romped to its 13th Piedmont District victory without a loss.
Hodge, coming off games of 47 and 41 points, was triple-teamed and held to eight points and nine rebounds. He took two shots in the second half, making both, and totaled five assists and five blocked shots. Ronnie Jackson, a guard, picked up the slack with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Laurel Park led 3-2 after the first quarter and 12-3 at the half, and its trapping defense forced a faster tempo in the second half. Patrick County (2-13, 2-11) was 1-of-2 from the field in the first half, and Laurel Park was 5-of-16. Both teams were 10-of-16 in the second half. \

at LEXINGTON - Four Lexington players scored in double figures as the Scarlet Hurricane won a Pioneer District game.
Jesse Baker had 22 points and Gavin Clark 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Lexington (8-7 overall, 6-7 in the district). Rockbridge never got closer than five points late in the game.
Martin Mayerchek added 15 points and Ethan Emma 14 for Lexington. William Sensabaugh had 20 for Rockbridge (3-13, 2-12), which also got 12 from Steve Madison, 11 from Michael Chambers and 10 from Jason Whitaker. \

The Highlanders bolted to a 32-17 halftime cushion and cruised to the Pioneer District win over the Rockets.
Jason Woolwine led Glenvar (10-4, 10-3) with 20 points. Scott Highberger contributed 15, Steve Ashworth 14 and Wes Jones 11 points for Glenvar, which shot 51 percent from the field and made 20 of 21 free throws.
Marty Early led Natural Bridge (6-9, 6-7) with 18 points. \

BUCHANAN - A 10-2 spurt in the second quarter carried James River to the Pioneer District victory.
The Knights (10-5 overall, 10-3 in the district) led 18-15 with 7:06 left in the first half but scored 10 of the next 12 points to lead 28-17 with 3:35 left. Solan Wooden had six points and Jody Steger four in that stretch.
James River controlled the boards, grabbing 24 offensive rebounds. Bath County (11-5, 10-4) had 25 total rebounds.
Wooden led James River with 19 points and Chad Caldwell had 15. Todd Jenkins led Bath with 16 points. \

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Six players reached double-figures as the Warriors wiped out Charlotte Christian.
Chris Davis, headed to Kansas next season, led Oak Hill (27-2) with 31 points. Jeff McInnis added 22, Martice Moore 17, Brian Thompson 12, Erik Melville 12 and Keith Kenney 11.
Anton Hubert scored 34 and Todd Fuller 33 for Charlotte (16-4). \

BUENA VISTA - Leslie Gray's 16 points led the Fighting Blues to the easy Pioneer District romp over the Rockets.
Parry McCluer (6-8, 5-7) held Craig County (2-13, 2-11) to only 19 points in the final three quarters. Craig guard David McPherson, who leads the district in scoring, was held to 14 points.
Jason Baker contributed 11 points for the Fighting Blues. \

MONTEREY - Covington built a 19-point halftime lead and sailed to a Pioneer District win against the Rams.
Van Wallace led all scorers with 18 points for the Cougars (12-3, 12-1). Ramon Sampson and Tony Jeter added 16 each and Everett Hughes finished with 13.
Micah Ginn scored 17 and Shawn Harvey 13 for Highland (3-11, 3-12). \

BLUEFIELD - Graham used a second-quarter surge to get back in the game, then held on for a non-district victory.
The G-Men trailed 20-10 early in the second quarter but went on a 12-0 run, sparked by Cornell Cooke's six points, to go ahead. Carroll County (10-7) never got closer than two late in the game.
Jay Gray led Graham (4-11) with 16 points and Chris Phillips had 10. Jason Stockner led the Cavaliers with 18 and Chris Richardson had 12. \
Carlisle 62

MARTINSVILLE - Carlisle, which averages 22 rebounds, had 41 in its Virginia Independent Conference victory over Roanoke Catholic.
The Chiefs (3-12 overall, 2-7 district) and the Celtics had a close first half. Donnie Pennington, who had already made three 3-pointers, hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to put Carlisle up 30-27.
In the second half, Carlisle worked the ball inside to Trent Bowles because the Celtics' big man, Charles Cunningham had three fouls.
Working inside, Bowles had 26 points and 17 rebounds, which was a career-high in rebounding for the senior. Bowles and Pennington combined for 26 of the Chiefs' 30 points in the first half. \
